In the game of Poker, players turn their hands face up after the final round of betting. A showdown occurs when there are no callers on the final round of betting or if someone has gone all-in before the final round. A side pot is created from the money bet by remaining players. The side pot may have many players. An all-in player only wins the pot to which he contributed. Poker laws are different for different kinds of poker games.

A player who has three of a kind, the highest possible hand, is called a “nut”. This hand contains five cards that match the high card of the hand. A pair of sevens is a straight. Getting a pair of 10s is a straight, while holding different suits will get you a low pair. A high-card hand breaks ties. There are other types of poker hands, such as flushes, straights, and three-of-a-kind hands.

In most games, players use poker chips, which should be supplied. In a game with seven or more players, chips should be supplied. Players buy into the game by buying chips. Typically, players buy in for the same amount. Unless a game has a strict maximum bet or raise limit, players are unable to raise more than this amount. This means that a player who raises will lose his or her hand if the higher hand is higher.
