Poker is a game of betting and skill. Each player starts with a pack of cards and deals out one card faceup and one card facedown to each other in a rotating fashion until one player has a jack. That player is called the dealer. After that, the turn to deal and bet passes from player to player. Players may shuffle the deck during each deal and any player may reshuffle before a new deal. The dealer is the last to reshuffle. A player who is the first to bet must bet a minimum amount in the first betting interval. However, later on, a player may check and make a higher bet.
If the highest value card is higher than the next highest, the hand wins. Likewise, if two or more players have two pairs or more, the highest pair wins. In a tie, a higher pair or three of a kind will win. The same rule applies to the fifth highest card in a hand.
A player who folds is said to have dropped or folded. If the player’s hand is weak, they can hide their cards, but they cannot ask about the number of cards that they have. If someone else folds, they will have to pay the remaining stakes. The winner is the player who has the best hand.
