Players must ante, or make forced bets, before betting. Cards are dealt face up or face down, depending on the variant. During each betting interval, each player must place chips in the pot equal to the total contribution of the player before them. The player who has placed the most chips in the pot is referred to as an active player. Once the betting interval ends, a new round begins. The process is repeated until all players have made at least one bet.
After all players have bet, the next phase of the game is known as the showdown. This is where each player reveals their cards and evaluates their hands. The player with the best hand wins the pot. Generally, players’ hands are composed of five cards, and the best five-card combination is deemed to be the winning hand. In Omaha, only five-card hands count. A straight flush, for example, is considered a winning hand. Four of a kind is also a winning hand.
While the game is a sport, many consider it entertainment by proxy. It is fun to watch someone else perform a sport.
